App Forge = -1

Today, another technology company goes into the big V.C. trashcan as App Forge lays off 100% of their staff. Rumor from an inside source is that their investors have decided to no longer fund the company. The company is trying to make an 11th hour acquisition deal with Nokia – but given the situation the company is now in … it will hardly be a good deal for anyone if they can even pull it off.

I could probably blog for days about this type of situation as I’m unfortunately intimate with it from my experience. Instead, I’ll try and look on the bright side: if you’re looking for some good engineering talent in Atlanta, there’s a good number of them on the marketplace tonight updating their resume.

Minor side note: it appears their website is down as well. I guess they really pulled the big plug on the way out the door.

There were a number of investors in App Forge including The Grosvenor Funds, Council Ventures and even super VC Tim Draper from Draper Fisher Jurvetson.

  • Carlos - unfortunately, I'm not sure there's anyone you can sue in this case unless you have something in your contract that provides for some sort of action in case of insolvency -- which I'd be surprised if you do. This is the nature of dealing with the reality of business - both large companies and small. Good luck, maybe Oracle will provide some support for existing customers...

Should have seen this coming. I had a conversation with an appforge employee about a year ago 2006 regarding the threat MS .Net was to their long term survival, he admitted it was a big problem and was eating into their targets back in 2006. My companies problem now is how to obtain license keys and quickly. Help…

Yeah ... for the some 30% of the mail population that is color blind replacing the red on black will be great!
  • Yea... I know it really sucks. I'm working on a brand new, cleaner interface and hope to have it up in the next week or so.....

Now this explains why they haven't been returning my emails =(

Dude, this blog template is impossible to read. Red on black? I'm squinting just to make any sense of it.
  • We resold their product for a short time at my former company VBxtras, back when AppForge was very young. It was never clear to me how they could make enough money to survive let alone prosper, especially with their big staff and Buckhead digs. It always felt like smoke and mirrors to me. Well I guess it was.
