About Jeff Haynie

My name is Jeff Haynie and I’ve been blogging since February 2003.

I live in Mountain View, California, USA with wife, Ginny, and children: Jared, Jack and Jenna. Currently, I’m the co-founder and CEO of Appcelerator®, a leading provider of open source technologies for developing, testing, and commercializing mobile, desktop, and web applications.

In 2008, I re-located to Silicon Valley from Atlanta, GA where I was active on a number of projects related to improving the technology community in the Southeast U.S:

  1. SoCon07 – an unconference style meetup to discuss social media, social networking, blogging and related trends. SoCon08 was in Feb. 2008.
  2. BigThinkr – a group of entrepreneur’s passionate about building a better Atlanta community. We also host monthly meets called YnRs.
  3. Hack Atlanta – a day of hacking for Atlanta, similar to Yahoo’s Hack Day
  4. Barcamp Atlanta – an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment.
  5. Atlanta Web Entrepreneurs – a monthly meetup for local entrepreneurs interested in building web businesses.

Previously, I was the co-founder and CTO of Vocalocity, a software provider in the communications arena. Prior to that, I was CTO of eHatchery, a digital incubator and off-shoot of Bill Gross’ idealab!.

I enjoy snow skiing and reading about business and technology. At Vocalocity, I was very involved in standards work in the IETF and W3C, such as VoiceXML, CCXML, SIP and MRCP. I frequently talk at industry conferences such as SpeechTek, Interop, Ajax World and other technology and business conferences. I’m am one of the co-authors of RFC 5552 – SIP Interface to VoiceXML Media Services.

Back in 1989, I joined the U.S. Navy and spent time on the U.S.S. Midway (CV-41) and U.S.S. Independence (CV-62) in the aircraft squadron, VAQ-136 Gauntlets. We were stationed in Atsugi, Japan (airwing) and Yokosuka, Japan (port), not too far from Tokyo.

At one point, I did work on JBoss as a core developer, but it’s been awhile since I’ve been active. Tom Elrod and I worked on JBoss Remoting and JMX.
